I swear running outside uses a completely different set of muscles and brain power than a treadmill. Much harder to go slow and steady. So much easier to go longer.
Different muscles/ways of using them is absolutely true!! Admittedly, it was always easier for me to go longer on a treadmill because the difference between my "slow and steady" and "too fast" were never... Insignificant, and also allergies, but the muscles thing was really noticeable.
I've been trying to do some base building because I've been injured or sick or out of town or SOMETHING for months, so staying in zone 2. I can juuuuust barely manage it on a treadmill at about a 15 min mile 😂 but outside it's simply not possible, even with walk intervals
as an anti-outdoors person, I will say I’ve been helped by the psychotic european biker who posts hour long videos of his rides through gorgeous scenic areas while he ignores all safety laws and swerves around cars and other bikers and it’s made the elliptical far more entertaining
