I’ve been researching this for a little bit. Shame the real estate purchase option is gone.
But I still love this idea: low crime rate, stable government… better than average compliance with mask wearing during the COVID pandemic. Beautiful country, lots of British ex-pats…
And closer to the Alps for skiing :-) Priorities! Seriously though, if you get more info, yell!!!! I've started casually looking at options like this, but not hard. I'm close to be able to retire anyway.
Yeah, I did Geneva -> Zermatt -> Zurich last winter. Loved it. Yeah, a little costly, but, to be honest, it was cheaper than my trip I've got planned to park city in March. I'd rather go back to Zermatt!
To be clear, Switzerland is ok for the time being, however, its neighbors are moving radically to the right: Italy has a proto-fascist government, Austria’s recent elections yielded a far right party as winner and developments in Germany and France are not encouraging. Other places might be safer.
Not many: Uruguay, Costs Rica, and if you prefer something remote, Mauritius are all stable democracies with a functioning rule of law and a clear separation of church and state (I.e. Uruguay).

It's a gorgeous place.
(I've asked about moving there. They cite the high prices & low land ownership.)
Lauterbrunnen is stunning.
