US democracy sucks. However, if Democrats had been put into power we could at least work within what we had rather than putting out all these fires. It saps energy we didn't have to spare. It is pointing out that the barest minimum of harm reduction wasn't done, and now we reap what comes of it.

Harm reduction is a meme. You can't expect Democrats to refuse to take the most basic stands against injustice and still get enough votes to beat Trump. They're the ones who dropped the ball here, leaving the election open to the climb of mass fascism.

If you say that Democrats deserve your vote anyway, then the whole notion that supports democracy, that it is based on "the people" voting for what they want, is necessarily invalidated, because "the people" must always suppress their political desires in order to forestall something else.

If you say that democracy cannot work unless people do this, then that simply is an indictment of democracy. But if the end result of this is that fascists win, the only thing it shows is that modern democracies are abjectly vulnerable to fascisation.

It *is* actually an indictment of our democracy that the brakes on a fascist are so easily disabled, and our fucking politicians so toothless that this is all it takes for them to crumble. Democracy is vulnerable to fascism. That sunk in years ago.

It isn't about deserving my vote at this point, it is about the impact of what is able to be done, the spheres of influence we do have, and how the power is exercised from there on.
This isn't about some vague 'deserved', I had two options, and one was intentionally going to hurt me/mine worse.

Harm reduction is a lived reality here.
I would not have had to fight the Democrats to keep food in kids' bellies. I would not have had to fight to keep people in basic Medicaid/Medicare programs. I would not have to watch as my government alienated and incensed our allies bringing us to war.

Yes, and had a Democrat been in office my attention, and that of my comrades and communities would not be so focused on whether or not we were going to live to see tomorrow because all the infrastructure and relationships he is working tearing down keeps folks alive and fed.

I think that wasn’t the biggest bloc, but it obviously was one.

Voter suppression probably cost more.

Yeah. The impact of me not voting far outweighed the damage to voting.

To be sure, voter suppression is the bigger issue. What is also at issue is 'the left' write large continuously shooting itself in the foot.
