It sounds to me like, once a US Senator showed up on the doorstep, El Salvador needed a day to clean Garcia up and move him into a nicer facility. And, then, did. Because - Human rights violations and such. I'm hoping El Salvador is smart enough to know - Trump won't be in charge, forever.

Thanks! I found this. So he was transferred either the 7th or 8th of April.
'Abrego Garcia told (Van Hollen) he had been transferred nine days ago to another facility and was no longer being held at the CECOT mega-prison.'

Depends -- I've seen cases where the client obviously had lied to his own lawyer, and it's only the client who gets into trouble. It isn't clear in this case whether it's the lawyers lying, or the Admin officials not telling them accurate information (or the Salvadorans not telling the US).

I remember my dad (who was, admittedly, a nephrologist, not a lawyer) pointing out that “under oath” used to mean something when people thought they’d literally go to hell if they took the name of the Lord in vain by lying under oath— but means nothing if they don’t believe that. Fair point.

Representations of counsel during a motion hearing aren't under oath. They are supposed to be based on reasonable inquiry, however. Lawyers aren't witnesses in their cases.

They can be subject to sanctions (and bar discipline) for "lack of candor to the tribunal."
