Pekka, this is a hard problem. Could WW2 have been won without bombing Axis cities? AFAIK it was considered justifiable to kill, in their homes, civilian population because this is where the labor to run weapons factories came from.
I do not know the answer, hence my question.

We are talking about different things… Most of the ammunition and weapons come from outside Ukraine. Attacks on civilians have 0 impact on the front. And it is obviously a war crime.

But consider that killing five or six civilians a night will certainly destabilize production… in a few years.

The killing of civilians by the Russian army is a fact-of-life. Russian army manuals at the operational level recommend that about 15% of fires (if I remember correctly) are to be put on civilian targets.
Pekka was calling to avoid hitting Russian civilian infrastructure. This is what I asked about.

Once again, it seems to me that we are talking about different things. Attacking civilian infrastructure (water, electricity, heating) is terrorism. Ukraine cannot react in the same way because it would lose public opinion.

The path to victory is relatively simple... Just don't hand over Ukraine to Russia. The territory already belongs to Ukraine... Recognition by the US or UN will be disastrous as a world example creating dangerous precedents. Worse than war is opening the doors to other wars...

I do not disagree over principles. Still, as a Pole, I have a "collective memory" on how it was to fight the Nazis (a brief episode, actually) and the Muscovy (centuries of). Both cases a "for real existential fight". It is not-that-simple.

Nice article. However, there is one more part that could be made more clear. That would be the second paragraph under the “the real redline.” For someone not familiar with the war, it might not seem clear that Ukraine has refrained compared to russia.
