BYD is very popular and very common here in Thailand. You see them everywhere you drive and there are dealerships all over. The only negative thing I’ve heard is that the batteries are easily damaged and expensive to replace because they are not modular.

BYD has lots of pretty bells and whistles for very low price. How do they do it? Government subsidies and cutting corners, like safety. We took one apart at work to benchmark it. Terrifying. I would not let a loved one ride in that thing.

What did you see when you looked at the battery? I’ve heard that the battery is not cooled and that it is built as a single unit and not as connected modules. So, if it’s damaged you have to replace the whole thing. Thai news reported battery damage caused by speeding over a speed bump.

I did not evaluate the battery, my area is interiors. However, if it was designed like the instrument panel, it was not designed to be serviced. The whole thing nearly had to be destroyed to be removed, and it was clear they plan to landfill them if someone reports a scratch and wants a replacement
