I excused some in 2016 for just not realizing how awful Trump was despite a long campaign that made it clear. There’s no excuse now. People that wanted that stupid asshole to be POTUS again are assholes. Half the electorate. I don’t know how else to spin it.
On election night 2016, I found myself thinking, “the arc of the moral universe is long… so fucking long.” Tonight I find myself no longer believing that there is a moral arc of the universe.
As European I feel sadness, dismay and fear for all that’s about to happen. I don’t mean to be cruel but the worst parts of me feels that suck it. You guys know him, you know what’s coming and you chose, collectively by action and inaction, the horrors that are to come. Emotionally I’m checking out.
There are people who have more than they could ever need in a thousand lifetimes, and they think by destroying everything they can somehow accumulate even more.
It always has strong men in it, who in truth are small.
But in our natural kindness, we let it pass, simply moving out of the way.
Until we can't.
That's why we have had world wars.
And likely will again now.
Yes, we are a kind people, reaching out instinctively to help.
But when you hurt us...no.
Maybe this is just how it is, Ben. The hope that women would save you from the inevitable. But we’re only so many were outnumbered by the people controlling us. I suppose we all tried, but here me we are.
We all wanted to believe that the blue team was coming to save us, but the people on the real world knew that wasn’t going to happen. No one really asked the women that lived here.
Just like all throughout history...
Even if that existential doom is fabricated.
Most people are just brainless apes. Although, that would be an insult to all other apes. At least they learn from their mistakes and don't bring about their own demise...
The unfortunate truth is simply this: the last 80 years have been a time of extraordinary exception, a historical anomaly. What you’re seeing is just humanity returning to the way it’s been for 99.99% of human history. We lived through the tail end of a temporary experiment.
I do not understand how there is so much hate in this world. I have never understood it. I will die without understanding it. And it breaks my heart every day...I feel like if I could understand them at least I could start to change it.
I'm with you. Mine's 2. Our kids will still be barely storing memories when he's done. There's hope to introduce them into a better world. I'm really holding on to that today.
so disappointed in "humanity" that i'm drained and yet can't sleep. i still don't believe that half the country is ok with becoming a theocratic dictatorship. i just don't believe it, i think some fishy shit is happening.
I can't even sleep. It's so distressing to be surrounded by an abundance of people who are so willingly ignorant that they put the rest of us in harms way. We're supposed to want the world to become a better place not a hellscape... x___X Why can't the greater good win for a change?
It's infuriating to me that any of you are surprised by all this.
Fascism will never be beaten institutionally, and it will always progress if not actively fought against.
This was the 2 most important lessons of WW2
I don't understand why Americans believe that fascism can simply be voted out
Posts like these are always extremely funny to me because they're written exclusively by people who want someone else to die in vain for their Twitter "morals" and social media "revolution" lol
You're saying that without knowing anything about the activism I do locally 🫤
Also, I don't understand how making a judgement (more like an uneducated guess honestly) about who I am as a person, is addressing my original post that talks about the ineffectiveness of electoral actions against fascism
Based on recent and older history, I really don't think voting does anything against fascism. That doesn't mean that voting is useless, that is NOT what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that it doesn't do anything against fascism specifically.
I don't think that's what people usually mean when they say fascism can't be voted out. It's that fascism, once in power, will crush the majority to stay in power
Whereas tonight people are just shocked the majority actively want that
Fascism is not an ideology that you can beat through a civic or legal process.
I don't think you can get rid of it without taking the risk of getting hurt/killed.
At the same time, not properly fighting it is currently getting people hurt and killed
This is something I talked to my therapist today about. Said if Trump wins I’m gonna feel that way and probably have some questions about my media literacy writ large
There's still a path to victory, but a very slim one. Harris cannot afford to lose another 2 states. Basically everything needs to flip her direction now. I imagine most will, but I can't say with any confidence that all but one will
Take time for yourself and don’t forget that as isolating as this feels there are still millions of people in the country who feel the same as you. Let it sink in and rebuild ready to fight in January.
Everything they ever taught me in this country was to be kind and look out for your neighbors. I guess they really just meant only if they are white guys.
"Mass deportations now" and "the true threat is the enemy within" are actually wildly popular positions. Seems like maybe humanity's inherent goodness was over stated
i’m struggling with such strong cognitive dissonance because it’s impossible for me to grasp that this many people can truly be this evil. i really truly can’t understand it. i’m finding myself second guessing what the true nature of humanity is after seeing the current state of so many countries.
It felt joyful a world without the bullshit of that man. Glad that you bought The Onion and that it will continue to show up the msm, and provide joy to us 😊
I keep making the mistake of expecting better of literally anyone and then I'm reminded we're still animals, tribal and self serving first and capable of casual unthinking cruelty in service of that.

That's it, I'm afraid
Willfully ignorant and stupid people outnumber intelligent and thoughtful people.
And with the GOP's plan to further degrade education in this country it's not going to get better.

Fearful homo sapiens apes, facing existential doom, choose chest-thumping boss ape.
Even if that existential doom is fabricated.

There'll be plenty to do.
What happened?
What is so rotten that people just don't care about other people's rights?
I accept you can own a gun, but surely not if you're a danger to society
But why do most Americans consider women not worthy enough to make their own decisions
Incomprehensible!😭😭

But if I'm as wrong about that as I was about everything else so far, the people who wanted it deserve it.
The problem is, those that aren't better.
They outnumber us.
