Turns out it is really really hard to such as only control serotonin in the brain, when the vast majority of serotonin is in your gut.

If you aren’t familiar with serotonin syndrome I highly recommend reading up on it. I got seriously ill from it for years because doctors don’t warn people about it and then prescribe a bunch of meds that impact serotonin and dopamine. It can cause severe GI issues as well.

I was a victim as well. It happened years ago during a holiday weekend & I couldn’t get ahold of anyone. I’d stopped the meds & as soon as the docs office opened, I went in & it {sort of} resolved, but looking back, that stays with you for a while.

A neurologist told me 6 months after I stopped all the meds that it can take a year or more for the brain and body to heal after serotonin syndrome. It’s no joke and can be fatal, which is why I try to warn people to know the symptoms. It made my life hell for a decade without me realizing why.

Yes! It most definitely can be fatal. The stuff I was reading during that holiday weekend is why I stopped the meds. Ppl really need to be made aware.

I think about Serotonin syndrome all the time, partially because I take meds that might contribute to causing it -- the idea that the same meds might have different effects in the rest of my body cuz they can't just inject them directly into my brain is a fascinating but mildly distressing one.
