Now that you think about it, crushing UK manufacturing to become a services based economy advertised as the gateway to Europe and then leaving the EU might have not been a great idea…

Essentially we need to go back running nationalised industries again that give us cheaper utilities and stuff but that we can sell onto other countries.
If private enterprise can make a profit, pretty sure we can as well.
The services and remaining high value manufacturing stuff was working ok. Then UK voluntarily leaves the market that supports both. Having capital markets that don't connect to anything much is problematic, too.
Now it's not even that great a place to launder money, apparently.
The irony of Thatcher both destroying our manufacturing power and being pro-EU, only for her fanboys and girls to rip us out of the closest trading market.
When I read Aaron’s post it really resonated with me, on a visceral level, as I just thought ‘Brexit’: transported back to June 24th 2016 - waking up to hear the result.
I’ve felt the same way ever since. The evidence of the destruction is all around us here. https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3lgk6w2ieoc2t
Ya think? Worst still if telling Scotland that if they voted for independence in 2014 then no EU for them...which is precisely where they ended up after voting against Brexit in 2016.
That's UK Conservative government's for you...cheers.
Even Tory voters want closer ties with the EU over the US. Even more Leave voters would accept FOM if it meant SM membership than wouldn’t. Yet all politics is now triangulated around Reform voters. It’s absurd.
People on the extreme right just don’t like unions. Trade unions or the European Union. And because of the crass practice of short betting they made killings from the UK’s falling out with both.

It's better in the EU.
Good luck.
Good luck to you.

Sure, it was problematic, but leaving a problem behind never works out for everyone.
