I do not miss getting calls at 3am from the negative cutter telling me that, "something has happened," for instance, or things like humidity damaging the emulsion layer resulting in hundreds of feet of scratched footage while shooting in a bayou, etc., etc., etc.
It's a magical film - once, on a transatlantic flight, I think I watched it five or six times back to back (back when the movies just spooled out on an endless loop) and never got bored of it.
I adore The Straight Story. A G-rated Disney movie that still has Lynch DNA running through its veins. And a beautiful performance from Richard Farnsworth.
I remember watching CNN and seeing Alvin Straight on his lawnmower, so when I saw the movie’s poster a few years later it resonated, but didn’t expect such a beautiful film.
Being in🇬🇧 I hadn’t a Scoob who Alvin Straight was, but found a VHS of it in a tat shop & love Lynch so had to get it.
Just read up more on it, can’t believe Farnsworth was so ill during the filming. He’s now on my list of legends along with Yul Brynner for ploughing on to create beauty while so ill🥺
Do you think people go watch it and think, "wow, that David Lynch, what a great director, I must search out more of his movies... What's this"Eraserhead" ??? ".

But I do miss the smell.

Going to have to watch it again this weekend now, it has to be on one of the millions of sources.
Fuck it, it’ll be a Lynch weekend, gotta have a bit of blocky old Dune too.
