Trump has done more to scare the rest of the world away from right-wing candidates than anything since the Second World War, and frankly, I appreciate that one sliver of good that has come out of his Presidency.

Proof that if you don't address your ills, you will become sick by some idiot trying to cure you with snake oil straight from the source if you let them.
In Canada’s case we got the best possible person to lead this country - Mark Carney. Trump’s threats to Canada played a role, but PP, the conservative candidate, drew from the Trump playbook and most importantly - he had no qualifications other than next level rage-baiting. The right person won.
I would like to think that Carney would have won, even without the Trump effect, but it was quite close as it was. Too many people are ill-informed, or just don't care.
I feel like we really underestimate the power of influence. Remember shitbag Jr saying hes a general in the meme war? This is far from over, we all live in curated bubbles of social media algorithms controlled by the very same people trying to oppress us. Until we admit it and break out, were fucked
He had exactly the same effect on me. He caused me to realize how much I love my country. Unfortunately, he is the president of my country. Some mornings, I cry for my country. Then I get back up again and try to do something to help fix this disaster.
Completely inadvertent, but his bloody ridiculous postering, blustering and mounds of big man bullshit, actually helped some of old school conservative Canada join the rest of us in going
I'm sorry to say it, but it's not working. In Spain (my country) the far-right party Vox, which not only shares Trump's ideology (and competence) but has also publicly praised his administration, sadly remains in good health judging by the polls.
Apparently hate is stronger than self-preservation.
Yes, but we have 4 years before the next election. By then, America will either have assassinated Trump or will be completely bankrupt, and anyone who ever supported Trump (eg Farage) will be thoroughly discredited.
We were slowly boiling the frog into strongman populism.
But he cranked up the heat to boil instantly. Happy for the rest of the world to see the lesson. Would really like it to not be a fatal lesson locally though.
I feel for the good people in the US who are really going to hurt. The worst is yet to come, and it will get ugly, in support, poverty, violence. By nature, I joke about things, but this will be devastating.

It was a pretty niche belief that it bothered me that Trump and Hillary were both for more Tariffs
(Which I don't personally enjoy that much because I want to bully our government further left, but it was very understandable 😅)
In Canada it seemed inevitable...then roughly 5 months ago it started to change.
I'll say this for Trump, he made me love and appreciate my country more than I already did. 🇨🇦💪
So yeah, there is a silver lining in all of this. Nobody wants to be like the US or Russia.
