what if I go line by line and say what is correct and incorrect about the arguments each person makes I might do this because I’m insane and the lawyer / musical theater nerd in me is jumping out

I didn’t include the bit later about them arguing about whether it’s a plot hole because I just realized how much further they keep going after Vic jumps in (lmfaoooo) but it’s definitely not a plot hole they just forgot like 80% of the plot of the movie
One key thing that never really made sense to me about the Music Man is that very early on when Harold first runs into his friend Marcellus, he says he has taken the band plan further and now he does in fact buy the instruments. That’s when he explains the think system.
It never fully made sense to me but he does say very early on that the plan involves buying the instruments. He seems so be saying he’ll make money on uniforms and instruction books but even that is vague. Maybe a slight plot hole. But no doubt that he intends to buy instruments the whole time.
I think the part that is taking the plan further is actually the uniforms because they take longer to arrive (four weeks) versus the instruments (which arrived earlier), so he ends up staying longer and falling in love
He definitely stays longer than planned because of Marion, so doesn’t make money. But he talks about doing the instruments from the start, so maybe the uniforms and books are him thinking on the fly and not sticking to the con. The idea of buying ‘a handful of instruments’ is so funny 😂
Every time I listened to their argument I, in my head, was wishing for someone to be by my side giving me all the context. Exactly like this. You have given me what I dreamed of, thank you.
