I've NEVER seen anything like it - the sky turned BLACK, thunder boomed, lighting, wind howling like a hurricane, and HEAVY SNOW blanketed our yard in just 10 minutes.

Thunder snow is just bizarre. I was in New York City for the February 1983 blizzard, and I was holding the phone out my apartment window so my brother in Raleigh could hear the thunder. (He had insisted on proof of thunder snow because he'd never experienced it.)
It was wild! One of my sons was out for a run when it happened. The skies were crystal clear when he left. Less than 20 minutes later, it all changed as you described, and we had to jump in the car and go find him.
