Like don't get me wrong, I love discord for hangin' out with friends that are dear to me, streamin' games and movies and the like, but I'm in that Hopeful Nihilism phase when it comes to the inevitability of enshittification here.

the only thing i worry about a lil is that a lot of artists and devs have elected to make discord the only repository of their craft and while its possible to scour old forums using wayback machine, it wont be possible to do so with discord servers

as someone who DOES use discord to host my art i make sure it isnt the ONLY way you can see it
only thing you could call "exclusive" to it are live updates to my substar bc i really dont wanna make a site post for every messy boob doodle

a lot of knowledge about older topics is saved in like, old forums and usenet groups that arent available anymore cept as an archive somewhere, but noone is archiving discord servers. a lot of discussion, opinion, guides and threads on a myriad of topics will get shredded when it fails shut

But yeah, there's a bunch of chat clients and various communication things. Just gotta find the one your friends are using. What weirds me out is people using Discord like social media and galleries. Like that just seems like a bad idea. It's a communication platform, not... your /website/.

not that ik they work for certain - gonna try soon, but if you're one of those folk that used discord as a storage dump- now's a good time to look into it lol

They did that to me a couple months ago and kept trying to convince me I NEEDED to buy into it for all of the GREAT FEATURES it added!!!
