I like the rising intonation "Sir?" to denote that the previous command was some batshit crazy nonsense. But it's crucial for the commander to hit back with "That's an order, ensign."
I'm explaining to my party that this is exactly what our enemies want, instantly causing them all to see reason and reminding them of the importance of our cause
Well if it happens again I will let one of my henchmen step in threateningly with some kind of pole-arm! (obviously i'll tell them to stand down after I let slip I know some sort of juicy secret about you or your household)
I'm continually amazed at how, every time my dark henchmen have an enemy pinned down and I order them to finish him, and he says something particularly cutting or insightful, they know to pause long enough for me to rescind the order and hear him out.
Timing is everything though. You've got to land the "enough!" right as they are about to do permanent damage. I once came in a half second too late. *whew* lemme tell you, that was not a happy day in the Demon Snake Hammer Dojo.
Yesssssss you nemesis warriors! Give us a sample of what’s to come in a later final battle! Show how much each person has changed as a person just through their fighting style! 🤩
Me in the corner watching the fruitless effort to become a cohesive group before the final campaign. “We’re all gonna die.”
I stand with a creak of the chair and clap you on the shoulder on my way out. “Find me when the children are done playing.”
Yeah, but then they ignore you and you have to force yourself between them shouting "THAT'S ENOUGH!" even louder while separating them and they stalk off scowling in opposite directions and it's a whole bloody thing. Does my head in, it does.

(I’ll be back just in the nick of time)
& do it while they're grappling or something so one of them can whisper right in the other's ear "this isn't over yet..."
as one of them stalks off, they mop their brow with a small towel and THROW it SCORNFULLY on the ground
