This is the Beijing-Shanghai corridor, which takes 4 hours and 18 minutes to cover 800 miles. That’s the same distance as NYC to Chicago, which currently takes 20 hours by train.

Every few years, there's talk about a rail system from Detroit to Ann Arbor or Detroit to Chicago, and nothing ever comes of it. Because nothing ever WILL.

I remember getting so mad at Southwest when I lived in Texas and found out that it as their extensive lobbying that prevented the construction of rail lines linking San Antonio / Austin / Houston / DFW.

God I remember that. I remember seeing their awful billboards when they tried to pretend to be "concerned citizens". Ugh ugh ugh. I remember seeing a pretty racist billboard against the bullet train that was by that same group but I can't find any source of it online. Regardless, I saw it IRL
