(And of course the detail in the Rubin images blows our imaging out of the water, but suffice to say that the budget and science team for the Burrell Schmidt Virgo Survey was a wee bit smaller than that of the Rubin project!)

The goal/hope for a best-case limiting surface brightness is something like 30.3 or so in r, I believe, but it will depend on a lot of details in the data processing.

Do you know if the processing was optimized for LSB features or was it the standard pipeline? By eye the depth doesn’t seem that different from your Mihos+2017 paper

Not sure about the processing of this Rubin image, but I know there is a lot of work going on in the project to work out how to optimize things for LSB work. And to be fair, my image is stretched to emphasize LSB light, whereas the Rubin release image is trying show a much wider dynamic range.....

Yep, its a foreground star in our own Milky Way.
