It's one of my favourite childhood memories- my grandparents owned a farmhouse for a while and the farmer kept sheep. I remember walking up its long gravel track with a torch in the night and shining it across the sheep field. Imagine my surprise when there was a fox in the middle of them all!
This painting is a combination of that memory and a real thing that happened to me on a walk on a cold winter day! Some of the sheep in the painting are directly painted from that moment, being followed down a hill by a load of sheep
Oh my god that must have been a surprise it always amazes me how unbothered they are a fox will only pick of dead or harmed sheep and somehow they know that π€·
Absolutely stunning. Reminds me of the months I spent on student exchange in New Zealand on a sheep farm, and this was my view every night... Feeding the lambs...
