people will really just see the words “west virginia” on a post about any political issue and immediately volunteer the most vile takes you’ve ever seen in your life about what sorts of subhuman conditions those people deserve. they won’t even think twice about defending that judgment call either

People who say this aren’t very clever. I went to school up north and it was always those who hadn’t gotten very far who said this, despite personal socioeconomic advantage.

Like, congrats on being born in a high-resource state, but it certainly hasn’t made you the awesome person you think it has.

As someone who lives in southeastern PA, I am very much guilty of using the term offhandedly and it's absolutely something I need to work on removing from my vocab...and yeah, I do wish Shapiro was as cool as Beshear 😔

I’m the same way with all of the ‘Florida man’ jokes. It’s all in good fun and we do have some crazy people but our natural areas are some of the most beautiful in the country, I don’t think you can look at the Everglades and Dry Tortugas and disagree with that.

I'm in Ohio and I get the "everything is corn" jokes but nature here is SO beautiful, we have world famous museums, and Kentucky and Ohio share the Newport Aquarium which is one of THE coolest aquariums in the world.
Plus Kentucky had Mammoth Cave and all those other cool parks
