I am more optimistic, even as replacing that production *is* daunting.

I guess I’m equally excited to see #Crew96 players step up—consistent starts for JRR; Max to continue on his trajectory; DeJuan, Chambost being established now.

And our overall versatility—which Cucho and Ramírez epitomized.

"Optimistic" is short of "confident". I'm also optimistic. JRR, Mo, DJJ, AZ, Patrick, Malte, and Max are all young players who are still improving. Only DN is arguably past his prime, but he still is a team leader in minutes.

We still need a CD to relieve Rudy, a partner for DN, and help up front.

I meant them more or less interchangeably—there are still *a lot* of combinations for a strong Starting XI against any opposing team, and I also expect signings (by summer) to help with the workload of Cucho, Christian, and Mățan from last season.

There was a wage that probably would have kept Cucho here. Doesn’t mean that would be right for the team. It is a bit insulting to us fans to say we know best. Trust us. Pay more.

The other part that's frustrating is we already had holes on the roster (CM, CB) that were left unaddressed. The response then was "trust us, we have a plan, and the rest of the roster is still very good".

Had they done something the Aidan or Camacho-heir gap, I think this all feels different.

100% agree, a lot of the late and post-season problems were directly related to losing Aidan and aging Camacho (as much as i love that guy). i'll be interested to see how that's been handled this off season and any mid-season signings address that and if Cheba gets the nod.

This is my biggest issue too. I can forgive both Cucho and Ramirez pretty easily if other work had been done the offseason. You don’t replace Cucho if he’s still on the team.

But we clearly need CB and CM depth; hell we needed it last summer. If these moves were complete I would feel much better.

Exactly. Reminds me of 2022, when we sold Gyasi in early April and missed the playoffs altogether (despite being largely the same Cup-winning team from 2 years prior).

Was worth the wait for Cucho, but that's tough to repeat. It's a bummer to basically punt on Leagues Cup, CCC, and SS.

i will say that though, that i don't think Porter had players willing to die for him. while i agree it was absurd to chuck Gyasi when we did, Nancy will at least have the team ready to run - i think it's just a question as to whether the ball actually hits the back of the net when it needs to.
