I was inbound to Atlanta from Frankfurt passing down the east coast as this happened. Weather like right now. Another flight slid off the end of the runway in Boston. The cockpit fell off, but everyone was accounted for until someone asked about two last minute passengers who sat in the front row.

I was a kid. I remember the waving arm of the submerged doomed man on the wing saving others. And the flight attendant blinded by jet fuel trying to swim away.

I remember that night. My Mother worked in DC and had barely cleared that Bridge, by minutes, before the crash.

I spent hours on the phone from Cali that night with her sobbing.

As many times as I'd flown in & out of National, I'd never seen that plaque.

I see now it was dated 2022.
