At the risk of being muted or blocked, why are hockey writers gushing over Ovechkin?? He has not stoped supporting Putin, who by all accounts a war monger, a brutal dictator, and all around immoral human being?

Thank you. I don't see enough of this online. Dominik Hasek has the right idea. Technically Russians in the league are an advertisement for Putin's regime. Certainly someone like Ovechkin who has been a strong supporter of Vlad The Impaler earlier than the 2014 invasion shouldn't be in the NHL. 1/2

There are Russians in the NHL that have not been fanboys of Putin. Honestly it’s disgusting how NHL media, owners, management have given Ovi a free pass. I hope he doesn’t break Gretzky’s record. Ironically, his family origins are Ukrainian and Belarusian!

I believe Artemi Panarin has been outspoken. I did not know about Ovechkin's background. Makes his falling for the Ukrainians as Nazis all the more disappointing. Virtually no one has said boo as far as his being buddies with Vlad. He is the first athlete I've wished injury upon. He is truly vile.
