Apophenia provides feel good hormones & I think that is a factor. Many have personal struggles & are unhappy with the way their life is going. This alternative reality appears to offer solutions that may align with existing biases (e.g. anti government, anti CPS) & comes with a sense of community.
There is a lot of work which looks at the supply side of d/misinformation but these quacks like Didulo and Alex Jones are filling an unmet demand in the market. In the way that religion used to. Community, small comfort, hope for change, but all packaged up in rituals & lies & $ expenses.
Their optimism is boundless. It's one of the things about them that I enjoy. They 99 percent of the time never give up on trying to make their brand of lunacy work.
