Even FF2, which had a divisive progression system. It now feels like the larval form of the progression system used in elder scrolls games. Also lots of star wars references
Counterpoint: the only way a game can be objectively bad is if it doesn’t function. Whether or not it’s playable is the only metric of objective “badness.”
But yes, I agree. As a diehard fan of FFVIII, a game whose infamy was only diminished by other polarizing titles, I know the feeling. I also defend XIII as a mixed bag of a game. I didn't care for its gameplay but I believe it has an incredibly strong story.
