I might as well live in an owl sanctuary.

I live in West Virginia and our holler has many barred owls (we converse often) and other species as well

It was in inner suburban Brisbane. Somewhat surprisingly, I've never seen POwl in Samford, though I've seen the road signs claiming it as such 🙂

Gosh, i'm amazed at his age, he really looks so young in the photographs with his awkward little head on his tubby body.

I was following a breeding pair for a few years as part of my job and and used to find the yearlings perched in the wierdest places after leaving their parents.

They change their shape a lot according to their mood. I think being slightly startled he made his head a bit more hawk-like, a bit like when they are mobbed. When he's relaxed it's much bigger and squarer.

That makes sense. I was lucky that the pair I was following lived in an urban reserve and weren't as cryptic as they normally would be.

We could collect the pellets from right underneath the low tree the babies were perched in without being attacked. The only hazard was slipping on intestines.

We are very lucky to live on a property that backs onto Bouddi National Park in Central Coast, NSW. This is probably why I never see them. Plenty of bush to hunt and roam in.
