Don't get me wrong - no intention of dismissing the efforts of soldiers. The effort at a national / leadership level just wasn't as pure as we pretend.

There is a yawning gulf between “the US delayed entry to a foreign war on another continent” and “the US is and has always been crypto-fascist.” And you’re filling that gap with your neuroticism.
That’s not exactly true. Rosevelt wanted us in that war. Congress didn’t Rosevelt started lend lease, which helped sustain England during their dark days. Many Americans joined foreign military’s to fight both the Japanese and the Germans. The bombing of Pearl was what got Congress to act.
Congress decide, the American people elected a congress that didn’t think it essential to join the anti nazi effort as an ally. Lend Lease was a money making enterprise. Ever wonder why there were bomb craters in London in the 1960s?
