I won't tell you to not drink at parties. Moderation is always better, especially at a professional event, but you do you.

I get upset at people assuming these drugs are only acting in alcohol, THEY ARE NOT. Your sprite can get spiked. Keep an eye on ANY of your drinks. & when they are being made.

If you feel more drunk than you should be, are having trouble talking/standing, or if your vision gets blurry - get someone you trust to get somewhere safe, & FAST. You need to be alert & aware of yourself, always.

These drugs can start acting in 15 minutes, & last for hours.

Have a buddy system. Don't go to parties alone. If you have to, share your location with friends so they can keep an eye on you. Do regular check-ins.

I'll be sharing my location all week with different people, telling them where I'm going at night, & when I'm expecting to be back at my hotel.

I had people I have not met in person who would share their locations with me last year because they were going to GDC alone. I would check in with them every day, especially in the evening and at night, to make sure they were safe.

Don't assume that guests-only parties are safer than the ones open to the public. My drink spiking happened to a guest-listed one. The "it's outsiders doing the spiking/assaults at GDC" posts I saw last year were seriously aggravating.

Our industry crawls with abusers. Fuck that "outsiders" noise.

Always have extra money to get an Uber or a taxi in case of an emergency.

I have extra saved to get friends to their hotels. If you see me & need help getting you somewhere safe, please reach out. I have left events to get strangers back to their hotels before. I will do it again in a heartbeat.
