I enjoyed your Substack article about this. The other part of the story that doesn’t get told is California’s attention to energy efficiency. We used to use as much electricity per capita as the rest of the country. I think we’re now 30+% lower than the national average. That’s a huge savings.

Excellent article Michael. The question it leaves me with is whether you're saying other countries / states should have a slower and clearner transition to renewables. Is a fast transition necessarily dirty?

I don’t think fast transitions have to be dirty. There are policies other states and America could implement that would both speed up development and retire fossil power plants.
