Except where they forced indigenous populations off their land. We still need to acknowledge that, while working to include them more in stewardship positions. Those treaties will be our best bet in holding off what this administration wants to do.
I know it is, and it makes me happy to see names being changed. Acknowledgement is a start, but action is better. Holding to treaties that were signed will help right a good bit. Inclusion where treaties were manipulated into existence will help even more.
Imagine a sign on the boardwalk to "Old Faithful". "This geyser is brought to you by the makers of Ex Lax. Are you bound up? If the sound of dripping water makes you pee, a handful of our chocolatey pills and this inspiration will blast you into a new dimension of relief."
National parks is what makes this nation great! People from all over the world come here and are blown away by the beauty of nature we have protected. If we grew hemp for most of our paper and construction needs we could stop chopping down the trees to wipe our butts.
do the indigenous peoples who were driven off the land at gunpoint and shot by generations of armed park rangers for having the gall to fish and hunt and forage on their tribal lands count as part of that "democratic" thing or nah
Still standing. One collapsed in Glen Canyon recently and a few bright national media sources used a photo of Delicate Arch (π) to illustrate the story. Lazy journalism π
And soon to be covered with oil rigs and mountains ripped away for mining. Sad, but we canβt have anything nice in this country as long as some greedy mfβer can make $$ from it. Again, the rest of us donβt matter.
Incredibly, they donβt because the NPS doesnβt operate outside the US. And while some countries have similar setups, many donβt. And the idea that land and wildlife can be held as a public trust ainβt that widespread either.
I've shared this sentiment for years - the BEST thing America ever created was the idea of the National Park and the fact this idea has been exported around the world, preserving unique and wonderful natural beauties is a legacy Im proud of.
The Qing dynasty created the first ever national park in Bogd Khan, Mongolia, so maybe it's a Chinese/Imperial idea rather than American/Democratic π
Yes democratic and republican. The founders were from both parties back when each did what was right for the people. When people work together great things, like the creation of our national parks, gets done.
I would be fine with the plundering of certain parts of these parks on say 20 year leases if 100% of taxes on those companies went to funding the parks
Im ok w fair use if they pay fair freight and that includes all costs , like if using a certain part interrupts, interferes, or destroys an ecosystem ( i.e.a salmon run ) then they pay that β¦ well the cost would be nearly astronomical- as it is , everyone else pays. The butcher always has a bill.
Hmm while I believe they should be protected at all cost. Their creation came at the expense of displacing Indigenous peoples from their land under the guise that βhumansβ (aka settlers) were harming existing ecosystems. When in reality Native comms were already in relationship with land.
Even though I canβt access wilderness like when I was young, I know it is there doing its thingβ¦away from much of the destruction wrought by mankind.
So now I visit the accessible National Parks. β€οΈ
Did you know that the lands were taken from indigenous peoples. They have been fighting to take control from the government. If we did that they would lease the parks back and provide better conservation and protection.
We went cross country this year with our focus on National Parks. It was incredible. We had to cut some of our itinerary due to vehicle issues and health issues, but it was 3 1/2 months I'll never forget.
Ruby Beach, Olympic National Park. I am fortunate to live close to ONP and get to explore its many wonders often. Count me in as an ally to resist privatization.
I never bitched about paying my taxes. I just told myself I was paying for the things I love about this country. National parks are one of them, and highways, clean water, air, etc..
I'm all for punching a Nazi. My opinions are the most morally correct opinions. If you disagree with me, you must be on the opposite side of the spectrum, and by definition you're a Nazi. I hope this helps.
All National Parks should be under the care and direction of the tribes whoβs lands the parks are upon . All stolen treaty lands . Some tribes are unrecognized for that very reason .
The Organic Act established the National Park Service in 1916. Interestingly, Yellowstone National Park was the first, which was established in the Yellowstone National Park Act of 1872! #NPS
Yep Jellystone was the first (in 1872). We Brits didn't join the party (with The Peak District National Park) till 1952 - and even then we had to hold a mass trespass on Kinder Scout.
