Words scribbled on a map by a grown toddler don't mean anything. As far as the rest of the world is concerned Denali and the Gulf of Mexico continue to be the official names.
The power this administration holds is completely fabricated.
Did Alaskans ever call it McKinley? Say before 1975 when Alaska initially wanted it renamed? Or anytime between then and when it was officially changed to Denali in 2015?
A friend who organizes a 100 mile ultra marathon to the top of Denali each summer reported this action by the Alaska legislature this morning on another social media platform. Sounds like no one wants the name changed.
It’s still the Sears Tower in Chicago. And it was always be the Sears Tower in Chicago. And it will always be the Gulf of Mexico. And it will always be Denali.
Twitter is one of the only things I’ll deadname. Denali picked its new name so I’ll use it. The Gulf didn’t ask for a change so I’ll use the right one there.
If you are on an Android phone you can look for open source alternatives on f-droid.org
Mostly they don´t offer all functions, but you can use the platform.
:)
Thanks for the tip, but social media isn't something I need to carry around with me. I do use Bluesky sometimes though, but I use it through the Chrome browser, not the app.
I was a teen in the late 80's when I heard the story of how it came to be called McKinley, I was born and raised in AK, so I've been calling it Denali since about '88

It auto updated and become X.
Since it looked like malware on my phone, I promptly deleted it. 🙂

It’s not about “honoring names” it’s about harvesting energy.
