When you demand to see a warrant, one of the men holds up a phone and shows you a picture of a document. You know that’s not how warrants work, but there’s no time to argue. The men are already closing in.

For the entire next day, your spouse and lawyer search frantically for you—but there is no record of your arrest, no information on where you’ve been taken. You have effectively been disappeared.
Only after relentless efforts do they finally locate you. You’re being held in a privately owned ICE detention center—one that has been flagged by human rights organizations for severe medical neglect, as well as both physical and sexual assault.
THIS is how authoritarian regimes operate — unmarked agents, no due process, fear at your doorstep. THIS is happening in America? What’s next — secret arrests, forced disappearances? This is NOT freedom — it’s tyranny.

You are the first person this administration has disappeared for political reasons. The choice is deliberate. Defending you would come at a political cost—one they believe your university, your community, or any opposition party is unwilling to pay.
That reminds me, the recent Brazilian film "I'm Still Here" movingly depicts the human, family-level experience of a government "disappearing" its foes.
This is how authoritarian regimes test the waters. The first disappearance is a warning. If no one fights back, the next one comes easier. And the one after that. Until fear replaces resistance.
Now, imagine this happening to you. Would anyone fight for you?
I don’t understand this comment? Like, there definitely hasn’t been silence, there have been marches about it and there’s like a big petition and lawyers have filed things trying to block the deportation.
Who is it in your mind that should be speaking out about this who isn’t already?
Surely this is about some new case I've never heard of. You can't be talking about the guy who has the ACLU defending him, who has had massive protests in NYC in his name, and has had nonstop press coverage of the issue for two days
There have actually been headlines, statements by political leaders from Senate Judiciary Dems down, loud big street protests, and a rapid lawsuit. I don't count that as "no one is coming."
They were on the news in 2020 for pepperspraying detainees after explaining the Covid virus was spreading and people started asking questions... because what you want more of in a pandemic is faces streaming with tears and snot...
It took three Iraqi detainees years but they walked away with $42 million from government contractors. This young man should bankrupt the contractor who operates this facility.

This is determined cruelty.
