My pet peeve is when people call Democrats specifically neoliberal. The Democrats are not neoliberals because they still believe in at least some state intervention in the economy (at least domestically). Right wing libertarians and Republicans who worship the market are more fitting of the title. - ThreadSky

Democratic ideology is neoliberal in the sense that it generally holds the position that regulation can "solve" capitalism. But I do agree that libertarians/right wingers definitely fit the definition better.

I'd describe that position as a social liberal and that the neoliberal position would be that regulation *caused* the problems. The line is admittedly pretty flimsy tho. Liberals in the imperial core for example, often try to implement social liberalism at home and classical style liberalism abroad.

Super fair, and there are definitely degrees to that sort of thinking. I just tend to find that those types of people prioritize the upholding of capitalism over even the regulation of it, so I don't draw much of a material distinction, lol

True! For most discussions the distinction is meaningless, but it's also important to not coalesce all our enemies into one box. They do just as much infighting on the right as we do on the left, and knowing where the lines are drawn can be valuable information. Oh and I enjoy being a pedant lol
