Ivory is great but it took Tapbots a long long time to fill in the missing (basic) features (though the eventual implementation are great). If they ever start building a Bluesky client now, it’ll probably take them another two years…
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve always been using ivory for mastodon too. But I can see why they might be reluctant to do another app for another platform as it seems to be a huge time & effort investment for them.
I’m a huge Tweetbot / Ivory fan myself so when I joined Bluesky over a year ago I tried to build something that honours and resembles these apps. But the main goal was to build something accessible that would at the same time make it easy for users of the Bird app to migrate. The result is
@simonbs.dev I’ve been using Ivory as my Bluesky client via Skybridge for a few days now. It’s buggy at times, but it works! https://skybridge.fly.dev/
The official app is fine. It’s all in the details. I like Tapbots’ “no frills” approach to social media apps. For example, I don’t like that the Bluesky app always shows the number of replies, reposts, and likes under each post. It’s a waste of vertical space.
I wonder if they could just extend Ivory to support it. I am aware that ATProtocol and ActivityPub are incompatible, but with the right abstractions, that should be possible, right?
Assuming they use good abstractions because they were extremely fast whipping up Ivory after Tweetbot died.

They probably want to wait it out to see if this continues and then go from there in a few months
