Today at COP29, the US announced a roadmap to deploy 15 GW of nuclear by 2035, & 15 GW per year after that by 2040, for a total of 200GW by 2050. I kicked this off and led it from OSTP while there and I’m very glad to see the final product from whole team. For the waste sadly purex is still banned but there's hope for fast reactors.
Long term storage should be indeed solved at one point. If Finland and Sweden managed it, US should too
More facilities will get built or some of the waste will be recycled with purex- that's why those allow to get casks back
It's not wishful thinking nor that risky. They know very well the advantages of nuclear power and do have a practical approach

French edf would have been in a much better shape if France didn't impose arenh limitations on it. Luckily in 2026 the scheme will be scrapped
I'll point out that because Ukraine produces so much of their electricity using nuclear reactors that they are in the position to produce nuclear weapons in order to help defend themselves after Americans have abandoned them.
Ukraine has 15 nuclear reactors converting U-235 into plutonium as well as other routes to nukes.
