Oh no. That is soooo sad. I admired him greatly. He contributed a chapter to a book I once edited on communicating biological sciences - a workbench view of science comms and metaphor. I felt so privileged.

That's so sad! I took one of his Guardian Masterclasses on science writing many years ago and it helped with my motivation to pursue writing over the other types of science communication (and community wrangling) I was doing at the time.
