Honestly I just like seeing game developers get some recognition, and likely get a boost to their sales. I preferred RDR2 to beat God of War for GOTY in 2018, but that doesn’t stop either from being a masterpiece.

I honestly think, there is a heavy reliance on these awards to validate a lot of people's tastes or whatever...and we as a community really need to sway away from falling Into this trap.

Love what you love and play what you want. Ultimately, you're the architect of your own experiences!

I agree. I don’t need validation on the games I play. I enjoy them and that’s all that matters. The game awards has added a lot of negativity to the gaming community

Quite true. The annual GOTY tradition is a bit of fun to me, and sometimes a reminder of “oh I should check that game out some time” but not much more than that.

Same with film awards, etc.

I've stopped caring as much. Also, I think there's a good chance we know who's winning 2025/26. The fact is that we all have our own tastes and it really doesn't matter. I just use the award show to reflect on the past year of gaming and also to hear the musical medley and see flute guy!

The one thing that annoys me is the potential for a DLC/expansion to win GAME of the year. I guess in reality, it doesn't change what games I'll play or won't so it doesn't really matter. I just think it sets a bad precedent.

Oh, most definitely. Metaphor Refantazio and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are 2 of my very favorite games this year... but, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth not being nominated is not at all cool. But, I loved it and that's genuinely all that matters... really.

I couldn't agree more in the heavy reliance. A lot use it to trash Xbox for not having a "game of the year." I look to the BAFTAs as more of the serious awards and more poignant. I look at the Game Awards as something that is fun but not the end all.

The awards are just like game reviews. Not definitive nor the universal truth. I might enjoy some of the games. I might not. I might not like game of the year. And I might absolutely love a game that didn't even make it

Dragon Age is my game of the year right now, and nothing any award show does will change the amazing time I’ve had with it.

I’ve always been someone with a long history of loving films, games and TV shows that mainstream fans despise.

I have stood in the fires of the Star Wars fandom and admitted I loved the Last Jedi and the Acolyte. You can imagine how well that has gone for me 😂
