Good episode. However, one confounding issue that I have yet to hear a serious answer to is this: If people ditch their EZ pass transponder and also obscure their license plate, and if law enforcement doesn't enforce the law re obscured license plates how do the congestion pricing fees get assessed?

It's going to be a problem! There's no easy answer to it that doesn't involve massive amounts of enforcement and coordination between state and city agencies, which is asking for a lot these days.

I live in Boston and I see more and more cars with either
1) plates obscured by very dark or polarized plate covers
2) Bent plates that obscure the number/state
3) "temporary tags" which are probably fake
4) I see more cars driving around with NO PLATES AT ALL than I ever have

All of these will be strategies that will explode when congestion pricing goes into effect if they are not stamped out with zero-tolerance blanket policing on the roads.

Without a way to *guarantee* that *every single vehicle* is hit with these tolls/fees, the incentives to avoid them will be huge.

And without enforcement of the tag laws, it will be the less selfish, more law abiding people who pay the fees while the more selfish, less community minded scofflaws who get away with it and continue to drive their Chevy Suburbans around NYC with no extra cost to them.

If people break the law and the police doesn't do their job, how will they be punished? Well, good question. Maybe with time the moral stigma of breaking rules eventually get to them. Otherwise you'd hope the police would do something lol
