are you aware of any writing about how US national parks became completely car-centric? it's always bummed me out that there's essentially zero alternatives to visiting a nat'l park without a vehicle

like, i get that their remote locations make building rail and transit options to them challenging, but the fact that none even have internal narrow gauge lines or their own busses is so depressing. most don't even have good bike infrastructure!

But "building transit" is funding ops and equipment. It's very doable. Rail, I get is a bigger barrier. And ITA on the bike stuff. As you might imagine, I have MANY more thoughts on this :-)

to be clear I'd LOVE the feds to build transit! And there'd be plenty of money if there was political will. Just, in an era when we can't even get congestion pricing, I'm not super optimistic about a dedicated rail line to Yosemite or wherever

There are a few parks you can visit car-free. (Far too many you cannot)
