"According to the International Energy Agency, in 2023 the growth in big cars increased oil consumption worldwide by 500,000 barrels per day and generated 20 percent of the entire global increase in manmade CO2." Via @davidzipper.bsky.social

Easy solution ... tax SUVs and mega trucks into oblivion and use revenue to support transit and safe bike lanes. This isn't actually difficult to do. We tax cigarettes and alcohol.
The growth of large vehicle in America is crazy. Some are so big that a pedestrian, cyclist or even small car doesn’t stand a chance. I’ve seen studies that show a driver looking out their windshield could run over kids in there driveway. It’s takes a dozen from the bumper for the 1st to be seen.
The article mentions Norway as one of the countries solving car bloat by taxes by weight. Next year the tax will increase further. Norway not only aiming for going all electric but importantly going smaller.
⬆️ carbon fuel consumption is problematic, but so is overall ⬆️ carbon footprint required to produce bigger, heavier vehicles. Even electric SUVs using renewable energy have excessive carbon footprint to manufacture, transport, assemble. + poor safety, impracticality in public space, ass aesthetics...
The same reason my daughter doesn't want to walk to school alone - she senses danger. Root to branch we've normalized societies controlled by sociopathic billionaires. #carsruincities #streetsforchildren
The Wife and I fought back many yrs ago by selling our Car and buying Bicycles , almost 30 yrs later, we're STILL pedaling, screw the US and screw the OIL industry !!!
