We need to drive less.

Though I bike to work as much as possible, I strongly believe that public transport needs to be much faster and more efficient than it currently is. What might take me 30 minutes in a car is easily 90 minutes by bus and/or train.

EVs would reduce the carbon emissions associated with that car travel. It will also reduce ozone, SO2, NOx and CO emmisions. EVs also reduce noise pollution and more EVs mean less oil demand and less oil refining. Like it or not people in some cases have no choice but to drive.

Is your point that zero cars should be the goal or that some ICE vehicles are ok? If the former you should really be able to say something positive about countries that have the least amount of cars per person. The latter position is pure climate arson. Not answering is completely unserious.

The tires we make now make a lot of tire dust and I believe that's part of the reason that dust in general is much stickier now

They always have, it's fundamentally the nature of how they work. Heavier and more vehicles and vehicle miles have made it worse...if there is a bright spot, from the article it might be possible to find a different anti-oxidant (kinda like we did w/ozone hole and the refrigerant)....

Electric cars will certainly help. Also, most EVs perform extremely well in bumper to bumper traffic.

I know you’re at war with cars, but we are a driving culture (thanks to GM ripping out all the trolley systems in the early 1900s). We have to be transitioned, not quit cold turkey.

They'll help with carbon emissions. Not with with tire dust, brake dust, road maintenance, etc. all of which are also polluting. Not to mention road collisions which are a disproportionately large cause of death and disability in the US. Transition has to include reduction in miles driven.

This applies to electric and trolley buses as well. Reducing VMT and mass of vehicles per person is good but making it the enemy of electrification is useful idiot behavior.

EVs are way safer than ICE vehicles when it comes to collision avoidance. EVs also reduce brake dust because most of them have one-pedal driving, which uses motors to slow the car down rather than brake pads. I never replaced the brake pads in my last EV that I had for four years.

Every car there is a proxy for how the driver wants to present themself to the world - the successful business person, the savvy buyer, the thrusting male(?), the practical family person, the 'sports enthusiast'. We need great industry marketing to do the same for bikes (with less thrusting!)

Shush. Everyone knows that driving a 5000 lb vehicle around for 12-14,000 miles a year is the absolutely best thing you can for the environment and your community and automatically makes you better than anyone else.
