I'm clearly not an expert in this, but what i know, is that it is very unlikely that we will ever live in a world free from harm, and attempts to push those who harm into the margins of society simply does more harm.

it was a bizarre nightmare - she looked so different than she did almost 20 years ago, but it was so clearly obviously her. a million things ran through my head - the thousands of dreams i've had of killing her, the fleeting desire to push criminal charges and incarcerate her, it was overwhelming

but then came the abolitionist in me. what would i get from any of that stuff? how would it help me? how would it prevent more harm? was i even sure that it WAS her, as she looked so different - we simply cannot rely on any kind of punitive measures to get justice - my childhood is gone, that's that

I know that I will get some measure of justice from time. time to heal, time that gives me space to think, feel and try to connect back to my childhood - it's crazy actually that this week i have felt closer to my childhood self than ever thanks to my partner and healing, then i had this experience.

but now that it's passed - i'm not sure it even happened at all. it did not harm me further to know that she was still around. does she harm others? i don't know. i hope not. the only way to know that, is if people are with her, holding her accountable, and if she has consented to be accountable.

it comes down to this: people need to know that if they are in a private space with someone, they could get harmed by that person. we need to arm everyone with this knowledge, even children. as soon as people can understand it, they need to understand consent. this will, over time, kill rape culture
