Is the problem Spain, or is the problem really the modern, aggressive form of tourism? Selfies/Instagram/AirBnB/party flats/gangs of males who've never had a real job in their lives and think that they're God's gift to photography, etc? There are plenty of column inches being written about Japan.

In Australia it is migration and investment incentives. So, it varies by location. Nobody (or very few) would want to live in Alice Springs, but you are still going to pay over $300,000 for a house.

Nothing is perfect, but as an immigrant into Spain I can only say that my quality of life and standard of living are way higher than they were in the UK.

Glad to see that you don't call yourself an expat, like so many of your countrymen do when they've moved abroad. I've been an immigrant myself for half my life and never called myself anything else either.

Thanks. Tbh, the standard of living is a lot to do with sensible property prices (I'm well away from cities, so we don't have that problem), and food and drink quality and prices (we live simply anyway). Quality is down to lovely people and the climate. I think that cities would be different.

That is very, very true. It amazes me when people envy about the money they could be earning, but never weigh up the cost to their quality of life in chasing those dollars. I am with you, I have a simple life, and I am all the better for it.

Part of the problem is people wanting to go there: digital nomads and tourists push up prices and make it impossible for locals to find housing in the cities. Airbnb and big corporations buying up property were disastrous.
It's great that foreigners renovate the rural housing no one else wants.
