Congress makes laws not the president; which is Republican controlled then and now; passes bill which included this ban. Biden says not going to enforce said Ban but bytedance shuts down anyway to blame Biden and pull favor from trump to try to not have to divest or sell tiktok. It's simple research

We are legitimately doomed as a country. We destroyed our education system to keep the youth stupid and now the guy who proposed and championed the Tiktok ban is now its savior and the youth will eat it up because they have no critical thinking skills. And Dems just let this happen.

I was a teacher for several years. I saw how terrible students were at critical thinking first hand and tried my darndest to incorporate it into my lessons. I do not want them to make our mistakes.

Unfortunately, with one side of the political spectrum having control of most social media, idk if it will change.

The party in control does not like intelligent people because they ask questions.

I really hope common sense prevails because I weep for the future that my children will go through.

Same. I am sick of the right having total control of social media. I did my best to try and disprove a lot of the propaganda my students brought up to me, but I am just one man. And the education system just become so awful where I live I just had to leave. I want a bright future for my nephew.

Biden said he wouldn’t enforce it, which means bytedance (Chinese govt.) capitulated to the Supreme Court and not the executive branch. Tik tok has already publicly thanked trump and the CEO, who’s probably a govt. plant, will be at the inauguration tomorrow. Read between the lines people

I would not be surprised if the Chinese govt. created tik tok as a propaganda platform, and bolstered by a worldwide pandemic it just worked. Convince the world that democracies are ineffective and they will vote them away allowing for imperialistic territorial expansion and all out corporate greed

To be fair, hindsight is 20/20. I can’t blame democrats cause the initial bill to ban TikTok was passed with bipartisan support (under Trump) and even if Biden did something to save TikTok, the new narrative would be Biden sold us out to china. There is no winning when one side has no principles.

The bill passed last year under Biden; Trump’s ban attempt in 2020 was done under an executive order, but that got shot down in two lower courts. Two separate things.

I dunno. Kinda feels like the only thing that’s bipartisan now is corruption. Congressmen buying Meta stock weeks or months before they voted to ban TikTok, plenty getting campaign donations from Meta, etc. There are some good progressives left but nearly enough to balance out the neolibs and cons.

There was a Trump executive order that later got recinded by Biden before it took effect. This is a new law stemming from the April 2024 Ukraine/Gaza aid package.
