someones indie published it and its an epub somewhere, i promise u! even beyond that, traditional publishing has had some amazing bangers. everyone wants good lesbian story but no one wants to read sorrowland by rivers solomon (pls read it, its not only a lesbian story, its a lot of things)
!! how i feel!! i have such a connection to it, ‘an unkindness of ghosts’ is probably one of the first works ive ever felt seen in my entirety. im currently going through the deep
omg!! the deep was my intro into their stuff, i fell in love w their writing immediately reading it. it’s a rly special book one of my all time faves and i love to yap abt it lol pls lmk what u think when you’re done!
honey girl by morgan rogers, sorrowland by rivers solomon, the gilda stories by jewelle gomez, the adventures of china iron by gabriela cabezon camara, just happy to be here by naomi kanakia, to name a few!! some of these have issues but i think r worth reading.
also, altho i absolutely love yuri, its not at all where i go to for rep for black lesbians, trans lesbians, disabled lesbians etc, i find that all in books! i recognise what yuri manga gives me and what it doesn’t
thank u!! enough counting on ‘i hate minorities’ corp to give satisfying lesbian stories that capture the complexity of our lives, more lesbian authors writing messy and hard relationships
there’s a lot i couldnt express in just one post about the dynamics. the lesbiphobia and misogyny impacting the relationship, whether or not theyre closeted, often different feelings of gender among lesbians, different gendered dynamics etc. and every lesbian is different ofc. whether theyre black,
white, asian, cis, trans, disabled, abled, fat, butch etc is gonna impact their own experience of lesbianism in subtle or obvious ways thats hard to pin down. i dont necessarily expect the inner moments to be captured by non lesbian authors, just for a lesbian relationship to be done with love and
the basic respect that straight relationships are afforded. that pretty much ties into what some get wrong - no sensitivity readers paired with a desire to portray the dynamic as close as possible can lead to insensitivity. but i find, more often, its a general disdain for writing their female
Ngl even published stuff is sometimes filtered or watered down.
I hate to recommend a porn site but literotica unironically has some of the best written (worst too, though) portrayals of wlw relationships I've read in my whole ass life.
Fanfic can be surprisingly decent too (occasionally).
ill probably check it out. altho no doubt some trad published stuff is watered, theres still hard hitters and self publishing is free and lovely now that epubs reign. and yah, fanfic can be decent, i just wanna focus more on new stories and ppls new works. love fanfic still but sometimes we get to
the point of just turning characters into ocs and in that case, id rather read that persons own work fully lol. but hey, when we’re at AU + lesbians + diff dynamics, it might as well be. but sometimes the fanfic air still lingers on it
That's completely fair, fanfics def aren't for everyone.
At some point you start reading stuff where everyone is just an oc with the original character names and descriptions & at that point, why not just read new stuff?
Absolutely agree on the published works too, ik there are some GOOD wlw books
it can be! but id say definitely pick up a lesbian book and try support lesbian authors! whether thru requesting it at the library, buying it or even pirating and discussing it with other lesbians and getting the knowledge of it spread to each other! we uplift each other’s art :3

also, yuri manga has so much to offer beyond yuri anime, gay girls like writing it seems 💕
Are there things that writers get wrong about lesbian relationships?
