Last night we stayed in a motel to attend an out of town Christmas party. We arrived back at about 9.30 pm. The room next to ours was very noisy. A family with a couple of kids. After a little while the yelling and crying started.

A child was hysterical and screaming while a man yelling ‘shut the fuck up’ and other nasties. This went on until I could take it no more and went onto the balcony and told him to stop screaming at the child. This is 10.30.
The woman was sobbing and asking for her phone

I rang the police who were there in minutes. Eventually they removed the woman and children. Immediately the police left he ran downstairs and pulled the fire alarm. So families with small children were standing in the street at midnight. The fire brigade came to give the all clear.

This didn’t calm him down however, he continued to rage around the room all night, banging, playing music and walking the halls. My husband (who is very frail) and I were terrified he would break down the door or climb the balcony. We snuck out very quietly in the morning.

It is an unmanned hotel. I contacted them to tell them what had transpired. The representative rang and told me the police said he is a dangerous man and not to enter until they got there, by which time he had left the room trashed and smashed. Now the police are looking for him.

As a child I dreaded any holiday because I knew that days of drinking, fights and general chaos would see me battered, riddled with anxiety and often homeless. Please report any and all domestic violence. Christmas can be a time of crisis for so many.
