Based on your bio your job is eating crayons. I think anyone can do that pretty easily if they want. Just like how it's easy to click the ban button on accounts people report
Oh fuck off. I've modded fora up into the millions of users, & it's super easy to just include a rule that simply says "Don't be a dick", & that the Mod team know it when they see it.
So, to get this straight, your position is "people who haven't done this need to shut up" and when somebody who *has* done this comes in and says "these people are right and you are wrong" your response is to tell them to shut up?
What has he done on this platform? I mean I don’t know who the guy even is, I just see his name constantly. I never see anything about anything he has ever posted to this site though.
You don't even need that. You just give yourself the authority in your ToS to kick people if they cause enough headaches, regardless of breaking any specific rules or not.
The discussion we’re having seems to center more on a willingness to enforce existing rules rather than the logistical ability to do so I don’t know what you’re adding here
I don't see why y'all think "ban anyone exhibiting bigotry and pedophilia" is such a hard, easily abused rule. Especially towards the people who made the rules in the first place? What? Are the moderation rules a constitutional law now? Did they become an amendment? The fuck?
Oh okay you're just a disingenuous idiot either directly defending the transphobic pedophile, or defending the people refusing to ban said transphobic pedophile, got it!
You're right, you can't. But you can start with the most prominent and public of the harassers, which has a cooling effect on the rest and denies them a rallying point at which to congregate and hype each other up for abuse.
Dude. Aaron literally unbanned Jesse. It's literally that easy. All they have to do is click "ban". That's it. That's all they have to do. He's one person. One account. It's been done before it can be done again. Hand-wring somewhere else.
We weren't even asking for it to be done quickly. We were asking for it to be done at all, in an absolutely clear-cut case with thousands of users providing the evidence.
You certainly don’t immediately UNBAN a person who has been correctly banned multiple times when there are tons more moderation reports for other accounts that need your attention.
manage the growth of your platform so your userbase does not grow to outpace your moderation capabilities. eternal september is not a new or surprising problem.
No. But it's famously a problem that EVERY platform that succeeds faces, even knowing it's a problem.
I think you're trying to justify that you should all scorn and abuse the BSky moderators, but your point is actually an argument for why people should NOT treat them like shit.
Naw. I genuinely and fully believe that most platforms should be moderating growth based on their human capacity but most grow based on if they can technically handle it, and they run up against this same issue again and again, and growing slowly would do wonders for mods *and* the users.

I know you think you're right.
But this is the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
We all need to have humility about saying that other people's whole jobs and fields of work—about which we know NOTHING—are EASY.
It's NOT EASY. Just have some humility and sympathy.
They're not evil. It's hard.
But isn't it kinda supposed to be used when somebody... IS talking to you?
I mean christ, dude.
More people = more violations
More people = more disputes
A lot can be done with AI and scripts but not everything, not if you want it done properly
If you don't have the man power to do this, get it.
It is not that hard. I don't know why y'all think it is.
OK. You got it.
Easy, right?
Everybody that 20k people vote to remove is gone permanently.
I can't imagine why they didn't listen to ideas like this earlier!

I would agree, If a petition based on NOTHING (easily figured out too) was made just to harm someone (how the fuck did it get that many signatures)
Maybe they do need more manpower?
Then you ban them
You can run a report on the "most blocked" user.
2) ban rule breakers
I could make you a PowerPoint if that helps
Then they backpedaled
They had it right within 24 hours and then someone fucked it up
