1/9 The Northwest Resistance was a conflict in 1885 btwn the Métis, First Nations, & the Canadian government. It was a response to the grievances of the Métis & First Nations in present-day Saskatchewan & Manitoba over land rights, declining food supplies, & the fed gvmnt’s neglect of their needs

At Fish Creek, Gabriel Dumont’s tactical brilliance helped a smaller Métis force ambush and halt a larger Canadian militia unit. Dumont's leadership in guerrilla warfare was crucial in this early victory.
