I'd say it's as engaging as the individual is, so mileage definitely varies.

If you talk WITH people, it's pretty dang good.

If you talk AT people, not so much.

We're all weary of self-promotion masquerading as engagement, so there's that, too.

Highly subjective. You can play any game and still call yourself a gamer, as long as you enjoy it. Hell, i still play the boring tabletop and retro games.
