I wanna add to this and say: keep your old art don't just trash it.

Don't think about it as the old cringe art, but a benchmark of how you've improved. You don't need to feel bad that you made it, but rather feel good at how much better you are now - even if just a tiny margin.

Honestly making social media just a "fun treat" I check once a day instead of being terminally glued to has helped so much. Just learning, drawing, and experimenting without feeling like I have to keep creating content geared toward specific follower groups helped so much with my creative health.

The most important thing about art is for it to be a sincere expression of whatever's in your head. As long as you've done that, you've already succeeded in the only way that really matters. Improving your technique gets you closer to your inspiration but you've always had the soul of it.

I think it's also important for others to know that everyone learns at different paces! What really matters at the end of the day is if you enjoy the process in creating art, rather than stacking it against more talented individuals. This is a really good message though ❤️

I want to add to this, don't be afraid to draw things you usually don't draw. It's definitely very scary to come out of your comfort zone, but you'll be surprised!! I have tons of sketch books from back in 2016 - 2024. They all tell a story of how I improved over the course of 9 years.

It may seem like a long time, but I swear those years will pass by so fast and you'll eventually see that you've come a long way. Also, do not rush things. Take time to hone your skill and keep at it, no matter what. It's your craft. Without art, I would be lost. Art helped me find who I truly was.

Just before I sleep, a good example of this was when I finally started coloring. I had no idea what colors I wanted for my characters, and I really didn't know how to shade (still kinda don't) so over the 9 years, I've been slowly easing myself into it. Now, I'm not afraid to bring my art to life.

It's a process that eventually you stop even paying attention to. You just draw, and it becomes a part of you. It became a part of me.

Invest in yourself, don't waver. Have an unwavering love with your art. And no matter how badly you want to compare yourself, don't. I've been there.

It’s so easy to think from online artists that it comes easy and it doesn’t! Those cool pieces posted online are the highlight reels, with a good amount of mess in the in-betweens!

exactly!! i always feel like people think i'm WAY better at drawing than i actually am because they just see the successes! there's way more "failures" than successes and that's part of the process!

it legitimately is!! it's been hard to manage really enjoying being on bluesky and letting myself be inspired while also trying to keep from falling in to the usual social media traps of comparing and feeling pulled in the direction of what others are doing. i def have to take social media breaks
