Also like, disclaimer (I know y'all have good comprehension skills, I just wanna be on even terms lmao): we're talking averages! Of course there's fantastic bread makers and bakeries in the US. But like... On average... (Also Dutch bread on average sucks ass too)
German dark bread with nuts is so good tho, but you eat 1 slice and you're full
When I was in Germany I had to drink soup everyday (special hotel) but I survived by buying a bread and a pack of sausages 😭
Its so stupid to me cuz most of the sourdough over there to my knowledge is just in plastic bags in a grocery store and sits there for a while, while actual bread would be rock hard at that point hahaha
Learning that US bread and baked beans have different ingredients explained their horror at the UK's love of beans on toast. Theirs are so full of sugar and other crap by comparison.
Yes exactly they call regular bread "artisan bread" and pump so much sugar into their sandwich toast you wouldn't legally be able to call it bread in the EU
Most of their bread is toast bread as well. Imagine having so little variety that bread made for toasting isn't even its own category but instead the default.
I feel like bread is always a hot topic, I end up making people in my new city mad when I tell them the bread in my old city was better ☠️🥖 BUT IT'S TRUE
Maybe this is my German genes speaking but I wouldn't call the sugary sponges the US generally has "bread"
They are something alright, but bread? Na. To many weird extras
I’m in US but go to a French bakery here (they make from scratch every day and use European butter) we don’t buy bread products from anywhere else because it’s so much better!!

USians who never left the US: YOU HAVE THE SAME STUFF, DON'T BE ARROGANT!!
But also me with the covid. My whole wheat toast smelled like straight up vinegar.
Meanwhile, we get that same bread at our local Aldi. For €1,50.

Pretty sure it's the same for almost every other "bread" over there.
